Overseas corporate retreats have become a common practice among many organisations, serving as a gesture of appreciation or motivation for their employees. These retreats offer employees a break from the office environment, creating an ideal setting for team building and cohesion activities.

In a recent article by The Straits Times, our managing director Evelyn Chow shed light on the value of such corporate retreats. She highlighted that beyond mere relaxation, these retreats present strategic opportunities for sharing organisational plans, discussing business results, and conducting in-depth planning sessions. The blend of training and recreational activities makes them particularly beneficial, especially for teams spanning different locations.

While participation should not be mandatory, Evelyn encourages employees to consider the benefits of joining. By engaging with senior management and colleagues from various regions and departments, these retreats facilitate networking opportunities that could lead to career progression and a deeper understanding of the company's operations.

Importantly, Evelyn advises employers against penalising non-attendance, especially for committed and competent employees or those facing personal reasons. The focus, she stresses, should be on creating an inclusive and voluntary environment that fosters positive engagement.
